Pediatric Dosing Guide

General Dosing Guidelines

  • Use the dropper, syringe, or medicine cup that comes with the medicine. Never use teaspoons, tablespoons, or other household spoons to measure medicine.
  • Avoid multi-ingredient medications in children under 6 years old.
  • If you think you have given your child too much medicine, please call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 .
  • If your child is less than 3 months old and has a fever, call our office because your baby should have a complete evaluation. (Exception: Fever after a vaccination, as long as your child is otherwise acting normally.)
  • If your child is unusually lethargic or not responding well, has signs of dehydration or difficulty breathing, contact our office immediately or take your child to the emergency room.
  • For any medical emergency, call 911.
  • For more information about fevers, see our fever overview
